Open Meeting with Scientia Cerebri Student Neuroscience Club
During an open meeting of the Scientia Cerebri student neuroscience club, Dr. Maciej M. Jankowski gave a passionate talk about invasive brain–computer interfaces (BCI). Participants learned about technologies developed by companies such as Blackrock Neurotech and Neuralink, electrode arrays implanted in the cerebral cortex, and how neuronal activity can now be precisely decoded using machine learning.
In the experimental part, Dr. Jankowski presented recordings from studies on deep brain stimulation (DBS) — including patients with Parkinson’s disease regaining motor control and animal models showing how electrical impulses affect motivation and behavior.
The discussion also touched on ethics and the future of neurotechnology: Where does therapy end and human enhancement begin?
