Prof. Shane O’Mara

Prof. Shane O'Mara is a distinguished academic, currently holding the position of Professor of Experimental Brain Research (Personal Chair) at Trinity College Dublin. He is widely recognized for his significant contributions to neuroscience, having served as the Director of the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience from 2009 to 2016, establishing it as a leading European research center.

With educational roots at the National University of Ireland - Galway and the University of Oxford, Prof. O'Mara's remarkable career includes distinctions such as Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin (FTCD), the first Ireland-based elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (FAPS), and membership in the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA).

His research interests explore the brain systems supporting learning, memory, and cognition, and also the brain systems affected by stress and depression. He has co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles. Beyond the lab, he explores connections between psychology, neuroscience, and public policy. He has edited three academic books and solo-authored a further four.
